Faculty of Education 2024 Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Research Award

DEADLINE: April 2, 2024 at 4:00 PM

Want to do research this summer? Would you like to be on the inside - learning how research is done while receiving award funding?

Be sure to consider applying to the Faculty of Education 2024 Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Research Award!

This award is intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members. The award provides undergraduate Faculty of Education students with the opportunity to receive $5,000 to cover approximately 17 weeks (or about 130 hours) of research-based activity from May to August. The project timelines are flexible, and may vary according to the schedules and commitments of both the academic supervisor and the student researcher.

Phyllis Weston English Scholarship

DEADLINE: June 30, 2024, 12:00 AM

The Phyllis Weston Award was established in memory of Phyllis Weston who taught for 40 years in Calgary Public Schools. Her teaching had a lasting impact on many students. 

Applicants must:  

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and an Alberta resident. 

  • Have attended their final year of high school in Calgary. 

  • Be a full-time student registered at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary or University of Lethbridge entering their final year of studies in an Education Degree Program with a specialization in English and planning to become a high school English teacher. 

  • Have good academic standing.  

There is one award of approximately $1,000, applied directly to tuition. The deadline to apply is June 30th at midnight. Eligible applicants are encouraged to access award information directly through this link.

Full Scholarships for Aspiring Community Leaders

Interested in mentorship, leadership skills development, and funding to start a graduate degree?

The McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada’s first comprehensive, leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies. The program brings together students who strive to engage in positive change by taking on meaningful leadership roles.

The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition and fees for 150+ eligible programs at McGill University

  • A living stipend of $2,000 per month during academic terms

  • Mentors, advisors, and coaching

  • A leadership development program

Up to 130 scholarships and awards will be offered annually for admission the following year. Two-thirds of the scholarships are available for Canadian students, and one-third are for international students in Canada and abroad.

CRITERIA:

Character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

TIMELINE:

Applications will open in June 2024 for September 2025 admission.
