Hey! My name is Antony Salib, and I am a Combined Science and Education student at the University of Alberta!
I have a passion for student leadership, educational advocacy, and community service.
By being elected in leadership roles within the Education Students' Association (VP Finance 26/27, President 25/26, VP Internal 24/25, and Volunteer Commissioner 23/24) and the Students' Union (Education Counsellor 24/25 and 25/26), I have represented and continue to represent students’ interests, contributed to academic governance, and led initiatives that promote engagement and inclusion.
With experience working in educational, recreational, and community settings, I am committed to creating a positive community, learning environments and supporting fellow students.
Outside of school and leadership, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and travelling, whether it's travelling in Canada or outside!
I also really enjoy sports, namely soccer, aka football :), basketball, and tennis.
Now that you know a little about me and about my time at the University of Alberta, if you're looking to chat about academic support, fun events, or anything else, I'm here!
Feel free to reach out to me whenever, and come by and say hi to the rest of our wonderful council!
VP Internal
-
Hello! My name is Ella Derenowski and I’m currently the VP Internal for the ESA. As VP Internal, I’m in charge of all the internal happenings of the ESA, such as table bookings, locker and office rentals, and making sure we always have free snacks in the office.
I’m also a Social Studies major and Biology minor in Secondary Education! I’ve taken a wide array of classes at the U of A, but my favourite have been my history courses. I tend to bring my historical knowledge into my many museum jobs, where I get to lead field trips and tours!
When I’m not in the ESA office or working, I tend to be doing some sort of craft, going on walks with my parents, or watching movies with my friends!
VP External

Habari za leo? My name is Gladness Mhehe, an interim VP External for the 2026-27 academic year! I love working with many people and am excited to help you achieve success in your degree. As the VP External, I connect you with services, discounts, and promotions that make your life easier as a busy student. Thank you for choosing to make a difference and letting us help you on that journey.

-
My name is Alisha, and I am pursuing a degree in Education at the University of Alberta, specializing in Sciences, Mathematics, and English. In addition to my studies and executive role, I bring practical experience as a mentor at Tutor Teach, an Educational Consultant, and an Information Technology administrator.
I am delighted to serve as the Vice-President Academic of the Education Students’ Association, leading Professional Development Sessions through the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and the Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium (ERLC). In the past, I have served in numerous advisory roles that involved actively representing students in relation to the Council of Faculty Associations (CoFA), Student Representative Associations (SRA), and University of Alberta Students' Union (UASU) student councils.
My vision is to continue initiating conversations through academic advocacy, amplify voices in the education system, and emphasize student perspectives at the university level and beyond. Based on my experiences, I aspire to support students both academically and professionally as they navigate their career journeys.

Commissioner Team
Technology Commissioner
-
Hi! My name’s Aimen and I’ll be ESA’s go-to tech person this year. I manage our beautiful website and handle our in-office technologies!
If I’m not in the ESA office, you’ll probably find me at Tech in Ed, just a floor down :)
Tech wasn’t something I’d ever imagine myself getting involved in— I’m an English Major within my secondary B.Ed degree. Opening myself up to new opportunities allowed me to explore how these tools intersect with humanities, and how important it is to have educators in tech spaces, solving problems with their unique perspectives and human-forward approaches!
Outside of geeking out about this stuff, you can find me at Square 1 Coffee or Hula Poke. My wallet is done for. Someone stop me.
Hope to see you all around!! Have an awesome year :)

Social Media Commissioner
-
Hey hey! I'm Arwen, this year's social media commissioner! I'm am majoring in Elementary Education. Currently starting my second year, looking forward to teaching K-3 littles in the future.
I am very passionate about the education system, hoping that one day I can initiate changes not just for the benefit of Alberta, but across Canada. So feel free to discuss any thoughts or opinions with me anytime!
This will be my first year on council (I'll most likely be here until I graduate). You'll probably find me filming content for our ESA social media, or face glued to my laptop as I attempt to create visually appealing graphics for promotions.
Outside of the ESA, I frequent the libraries (Cameron 3rd Floor or Rutherford Harry Potter Room), and the gym! If not there, I'm probably curled up next to my laptop watching shows (currently watching Bridgerton), or reading thrifted YA romance novels.
Along the lines of interests, I am an avid F1 watcher, who also has some interest in baseball and hockey! Music is definitely one of my bigger likes, with K-Pop or Soundcloud artists being my most listened to.
I hope that we can get to know each other throughout the year, feel free to message me or come talk to me in person or at the ESA office! Toodles!

Volunteer Commissioner
-
Hello, my name is Kayla and I am this year’s Volunteer Commissioner. If you’re looking for a side quest to fulfill throughout your degree, I am happy to connect and help with getting involved as a volunteer with the ESA.
Currently, I am an After Degree student for Secondary Education with a major in Social Studies. However, it also excites me to contemplate life and university in general, staying true to my first degree in Philosophy and Gender Studies. Chatting with different volunteers and connecting with council has helped to build genuine connections that make each day so much more meaningful.
When I’m not in the office, I may be napping at home. Otherwise, I love to sketch people on the train and drink boba to cope with the pressures of academia. I’m always down to chat and connect, so come say hi when you drop by the office for a snack!

I enjoy volunteering in my community by coaching youth soccer or helping out in classrooms.
Outside of school, I love reading, playing music (drums and piano), playing soccer, or just playing a great video game.
I enjoy watching films and TV or listening to interesting podcasts about society or everyday life.
I hope to gain much experience as a teacher by teaching in both Canada and abroad in other countries. I am happy to serve you as the first year rep on the ESA council!
I wish everyone the best during their school years!
Second Year Representative
-
Hi! I’m Fumika, a second-year Elementary Education student and your Year Rep! My main goal this year is to build a welcoming community within the Faculty of Education and connect students with resources and opportunities. Whether you have questions about second year or just want to chat, I’m here!
Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active at the gym, playing tennis and volleyball, and scouting out new local cafes and restaurants.
As an international student, I know that adjusting to a new city and navigating the Canadian university system can be a bit overwhelming at first. While I’m still learning every day, I am here to support fellow international students :)
Third Year Representative
-
Hello! My name is Sarah and I am going into my third year of elementary education! I love playing dodgeball, attending Pilates classes on campus, and staying busy with my friends. I enjoy doing crafts such as painting and knitting. One of my other favourite hobbies is baking! I’d love to see everyone at the incredible events that the ESA puts on :)
Fourth+ Year Representative
-
Hello everyone my name is Maggie, I’m currently in my 4th year. I just finished my IFX and truly had an amazing time if you have any question please feel free to ask me! Outside of school I enjoy doing puzzles and trying new restaurants!
After-Degree Representative
-
Hi! I'm Gurjot, your After-Degree Representative! I'm passionate about building my career in education and love meeting new people, so one of my favourite parts of this role is getting to connect with fellow education students and helping to build a welcoming community. I finished my first two years of my undergrad in Toronto and the last two at UofA, so I know how isolating university can feel when pushed into a new position. I want to make sure everyone is heard and that no one is ever left out.
I tutor alongside school, and I really enjoy supporting students as they build confidence and reach their goals. Outside of education, I enjoy watching reality TV, playing Minecraft, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. I'm always up for a conversation, so if you see me around campus, please don’t hesitate to say hi. I can't wait to meet you!
